Pitt Administration

Throughout its history, the University has provided a summary of its curriculum, achievements and events through a series of publications and reports. Some of these records, such as Chancellor’s Reports and University Catalogues, are internal documents that describe academic life at Pitt and the University’s response to current events. Others, such as the University Fact Books and Press Releases, were distributed on a wider basis and provide information about Pitt’s strengths and important events affiliated with the University.

Pitt Alumni

Beginning in 1926 with the University of Pittsburgh Record the university has utilized publications to stay in touch with alumni. Since that time, other publications such as the Pittsburgh Record, University of Pittsburgh Alumni Bulletin, Alumni Review, Alumni News Review, Alumni Times and Pitt have kept alumni informed about the activities of their alma mater and fellow graduates. Many issues of these publications are available in this collection.

Pitt Athletics

The University of Pittsburgh has a longstanding tradition of athletic achievement. This collection provides information about Pitt football (1950-2010) and basketball (1958-2011) teams through university-issued media guides. Also included is the 1910 football yearbook and photographs of teams, players and coaches from various sports.

Pitt Campus Life

This collection provides photographs and information about Pitt buildings and events, such as commencement and the honors convocation, that are integral parts of the Pitt experience.

Pitt Faculty

This collection contains lectures, correspondence, and photographs that demonstrate the impact Pitt faculty has made on campus, in Pittsburgh, and throughout the world.

Pitt Nationality Rooms

This collection contains photographs, presentation programs and other publications concerning the Cathedral of Learning’s Nationality Rooms.

Pitt News

The Pitt News and its predecessor, The Pitt Weekly, are the student newspapers of the University of Pittsburgh. This collection contains scanned copies of these papers from the inception of The Pitt Weekly in 1910 through April 2019.

Pitt Photographs

This collection contains photos of Pitt buildings, students, faculty, athletics, organizations and events from the University Archives and many other Archives Service Center photographic collections. It also includes photographs of the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg campus and activities.

Pitt Publications

This collection contains a multitude of publications providing several perspectives and pertaining to various aspects of the university, including alumni and student publications. Also present are several comprehensive histories of the university and publications from various academic disciplines.

Pitt Student Life

This collection contains publications and programs that provide information about academics and student life at Pitt, including the notebook of Joseph Larwill, which is the only manuscript in the University Archives that dates from the Pittsburgh Academy.

Pitt Yearbooks

The Owl began publication in 1907 as the yearbook of the Western University of Pennsylvania. In 1981 the yearbook’s name was changed to Panther Prints, shifting the focus from students and activities to campus events. This collection contains every yearbook published from 1907 to 2011, documenting over a century of Pitt students, groups and activities.

University Catalogues

Catalogues of the Western University of Pennsylvania from the 1861/1862 academic year through 1907/1908, as well as Catalogs of the University of Pittsburgh from 1908/1909 through 1926/1927. Also includes Graduate School of Public Health Bulletins, 1950-1999.

University Times

All issues of the University Times quarterly newspaper dating from December 1968 to June 1969, as well as a complete run of the University Times biweekly newspaper from the first issue on April 29, 1969 to the last issue of volume 37 on July 21, 2005.
