This collection consists of Annual Reports for the Center for the Philosophy of Science for the years 1988/89 to 1994-95. The reports for 1991- were submitted to the Richard King Mellon Foundation to fulfill the requirements of a grant. In addition there are two folders of publictiy and brochures associated with the Center.

In 1960, the University of Pittsburgh's academic vice chancellor, Charles H. Peake, appointed Adolf Grünbaum as Andrew Mellon Professor of Philosophy with the mandate to establish the Center for Philosophy of Science. The Center's mission is to foster original work in the philosophy and history of science.
The first activity of the Center was the establishment of an annual lecture series. The papers delivered at the lecture series are published as part of the University of Pittsburgh Series in the Philosophy of Science by the University of Pittsburgh Press.
